The skills involved in handcrafting pewter are without doubt second to none. The meticulous hand finishing, hand turning and soldering skills take years to acquire. Pewter has a long history in Ireland, going back over 800 years. We know that Mullingar Pewter’s founder Peter Collins helped train and employ local artisans, reviving the crafts of casting and finishing in Ireland in the 1970s. The ancient craft of Mullingar Pewter making was revived in Ireland by Paddy Collins in Mullingar in 1974. Paddys son Peter now runs the business Mullingar Pewter and it employs 16 people from the local area.
